Prats-de-Mollo

Prats-de-Mollo is a Catalan town dating back a 1000 years. It still features well-preserved ramparts and a Medieval quarter with Fort Lagarde and a Nature reserve close by.

To reach Prats-de-Mollo you take the road through Céret and Arles-sur-Têch and this climbs up to the southern slopes of mount Canigou along the valley of the river Têch. You need to allow about an hour and a quarter to get there from our house so we would suggest that you stop in the town for lunch. On the way back you might wish to visit the Museum of Modern Art at Céret, which Picasso helped to found and which contains some of his drawings and ceramics. There is a permanent exhibition of 20th century art, mainly paintings, together with an  exhibition of other artists both current and contemporary, which changes every 2 months or so.

Vehicles are not allowed inside the ramparts, other than to make deliveries or collections, so you will need to park outside in one of several parking areas and walk back the short distance.
