Saint Martin de Camélas with the snow covered peak of Canigou (2,784m) in the background. The origins of the tiny chapel go back to before 1259, when it was a hermitage. The chapel can be reached by
driving through the village of Camelas and then carrying on up a dirt road for a couple of kilometres. Finally a 10 minute walk from the track will get you to the chapel, which is normally open to view. From the peak on which
it is built (522m) you can see north, across the plain, to the next range of hills, the Corbieres and east to Perpignan and the Mediterranean.
